Job summary

Salt Lake County Public Works seeks a Construction Inspector to inspect municipal projects, review plans, and document site records. The role requires reading plans, tracking test results, and ensuring compliance with SWPPP and county standards on sidewalks, drainage, and street work.

Candidates must have five years of related experience or equivalent education, a Utah CDL, SWPPP certification within a year, and pass extensive background and drug tests.

Qualifications

• Five (5) years of experience related to municipal construction or an equivalent combination of education and experience substituted on a year-for-year basis.
• A valid Utah driver’s license at hire; license to operate county vehicle within six months.
• Must obtain a valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within six months of hire date.
• SWPPP certification within the first year of hire date.
• Background check via fingerprinting and enrollment in RAP Back as per policy requirements.
• Must pass a mandatory drug test before starting; random alcohol and drug testing may apply; post-accident testing possible.

Responsibilities

• Inspect construction projects to ensure plans and specifications are met.
• Read and interpret project specifications and grade sheets, plan and grade sheets, and related drawings.
• Inspect placement of concrete, asphalt, base courses, and pipe materials to meet county or local specifications.
• Enforce SWPPP compliance and address deficiencies; may issue fines for non-compliance.
• Perform soil testing using nuclear density methods per ASTM D2922.
• Schedule inspections to meet contractor needs and ensure critical inspections are performed.
• Prepare and maintain daily records, drawings, letters, and reports.
• Carry out Snow Removal Duties.
