Job summary

Conservation Legacy seeks an AmeriCorps Crew Leader to guide a crew on conservation projects across Appalachia, starting Feb 15, 2027 and concluding May 11, 2027. Based in Harrisonburg, VA, you will lead fieldwork, safety, and logistics, while promoting learning and teamwork among four young adults.

You will receive a $675 weekly stipend ($500 living allowance + $175 additional benefit) plus an AmeriCorps Education Award upon successful completion. Accommodation details vary by field location.

Qualifications

• Be between 18 and 30 years old (veterans up to 35).
• US citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident.
• High school diploma or equivalent; commit to education award.
• Agree to provide eligibility info and complete National Service Criminal History Check.
• First Aid with CPR/AED or willing to certify before start.
• Willingness to engage in community-building and peer leadership.
• Experience with backpacking, wilderness living, and Leave No Trace principles.
• Over 21 or have a driver’s license for 3+ years with no restrictions.

Responsibilities

• Train and motivate a crew of four young adults to complete conservation projects on public lands.
• Delegate project work and manage on-ground quality and quantity of work.
• Communicate effectively with project partners, staff, and crew leaders.
• Monitor safety and ensure logistics and transportation are handled properly.
• Support administration, including medical history forms and incident documentation.
