Job summary

FirstEnergy Corp is seeking a Communications Technician to install, test, calibrate, maintain, and repair a range of telecommunications systems including fiber, microwave, Substation RTUs, and power line carrier. You will work with IT regional networks, generate reports, and create as-built documentation.

The role requires an Associate's degree or 2 years related experience, plus strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree in Electronic or Electrical Engineering Technology or 2 years related work experience.
• Experience with network communication equipment, SCADA, power line carrier, remote terminal units, telecommunication circuits, radios, and related systems.
• Proficiency with engineering drawings, electrical schematics, equipment manuals and procedures.
• Able to work with engineering/management and with customers, contractors and the public.
• Proficient with PC software including Microsoft Office and SAP; familiarity with NMS.
• Team-oriented, detail-focused, and able to work independently.

Responsibilities

• Install, test, calibrate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair telecom systems and devices.
• Review engineering drawings for accuracy and update field changes.
• Create project as-built documentation and reports.
• Travel to off-site locations and support after-hours and on-call duties.
• Ensure safety and customer service standards are met.
