Job summary

Cobalt Recruitment is seeking a Commissioning Engineer for Boiler and HVAC systems in NYC/Westchester. Thishands-on role covers startup through verified operation on new mechanical installations, in an active mechanical room environment.

Responsibilities include commissioning planning, reviewing sequences, sensor/wiring readiness, and reporting. Travel across NYC/Westchester is required, with strong emphasis on safety and on-site collaboration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred or equivalent hands-on heating systems experience.
• 4+ years' hands-on experience with commercial boilers, burners, pumps, and controls.
• Ability to read mechanical schematics, wiring diagrams, and a written Sequence of Operations.
• OSHA SST certification and valid driver's license required.

Responsibilities

• Build commissioning plan with tests, KPIs, and data.
• Review schematics and Sequence of Operations for HVAC, steam, hydronic, and domestic hot water systems; raise RFIs as needed.
• Walk installations near completion to confirm hardware, sensors, and wiring readiness.
• Own go/no-go startup readiness and manage the punch list until site readiness.
• Energize and start boilers, pumps, and controls; verify operation of inputs/outputs.
• Run combustion analysis and record O2, CO, stack temp, and efficiency.
• Verify safeties and interlocks (LWCO, high-limit, gas switches, flame safeguard).
• Troubleshoot control circuits and set up long-term test instrumentation.
• Prove system sequencing and BAS integration per design; manage lead/lag and schedules.
• Produce Commissioning Reports and Boiler Room Settings documentation.
