Job summary

Town of Gilbert is seeking a Code Inspector II to protect public health and safety through field enforcement of building and zoning codes. The role involves inspecting structures, investigating complaints, and documenting findings for reports and legal proceedings.

You will mentor junior inspectors and provide technical guidance on code interpretation, while working as part of the Inspections Division in a full-time, at-will role.

Qualifications

• 3-4 years of experience in code enforcement or law enforcement, with an emphasis on public contact.
• Valid Arizona driver's license.
• ICC/AACE Zoning Inspector Certification.
• Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the necessary knowledge and abilities to perform the work.
• High school diploma or GED.

Responsibilities

• Conducting field inspections of structures and materials to identify and resolve code violations.
• Investigating and responding to complaints from the public, staff, and other agencies regarding potential violations.
• Documenting findings and preparing detailed reports and evidence, including materials used in legal proceedings.
• Reviewing Inspector I caseloads and training new inspectors to maintain consistency and accuracy across the team.
• Serving as backup for the Code Compliance Supervisor and providing technical guidance on code interpretation and compliance.
