Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of 3 years in building inspection or related construction work.
• Two years of experience in commercial or industrial construction work.
• ICC B1 and B2 residential/commercial inspector certifications required; Accessibility Inspector/Plans Examiner within one year of hire.

Responsibilities

• Serve as technical resource and mentor to Building Inspector I staff; guide on code interpretation and inspection practices.
• Conduct routine to complex inspections of residential, commercial, and industrial projects for compliance with building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, energy and zoning codes.
• Interpret plans for code compliance; investigate complaints; ensure submittals and permits are complete; schedule inspections and coordinate with other departments.
• Communicate with contractors, property owners, and the public about code compliance and permit issues; maintain records of inspections and activities.
