Job summary

Sperry Rail, Inc. in Billings, MT is seeking a field-based CDL Driver (BNSF) to operate hi-rail trucks and rail-bound detector cars, travel across Eastern or Western US for multi-month assignments, and support testing operations while ensuring DOT compliance.

Candidate must hold CDL Class A or B with air brake endorsement, pass DOT physical and background checks, and meet the physical demands of a demanding travel role with competitive hourly pay of $21.60 and OT opportunities.

Qualifications

• Valid CDL Class A or B with air brake endorsement.
• Ability to pass a DOT physical, drug screen, and background check (where permitted by law).
• Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
• Ability to meet the physical demands of the role.

Responsibilities

• Travel extensively (3–4 months at a time) within assigned regions.
• Perform all work in the field in varied and sometimes extreme weather conditions.
• Operate commercial vehicles (hi-rail trucks and rail-bound detector cars) on roadways and railroad tracks; perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections; maintain DOT compliance including logs and inspections.
• Assist with rail flaw detection testing and data collection; monitor and interpret data on onboard systems; perform ground-level inspections.
• Assist with the repair and maintenance of detector carriage and equipment; maintain cleanliness and organization of vehicle and equipment.
• Follow all safety policies and DOT/FRA regulations; wear PPE; complete required training including Road Worker Safety.
• Communicate clearly with crew via radio/intercom; report safety concerns and equipment issues; maintain professional relationships with railroad personnel.
