Job summary

City and County of Honolulu seeks a Building Construction Inspector to inspect a wide range of public building projects, ensuring adherence to approved plans, specs, contracts, and safety standards. You will oversee field inspections, prepare change orders, and maintain construction records to support safe, high-quality city facilities.

Responsibilities include reviewing shop drawings, coordinating tests, and conducting pre-final/final inspections, with duties extending to reporting and cost

Qualifications

• Experience inspecting building construction projects.
• Knowledge of plans, specifications, contracts and safety codes.
• Ability to prepare accurate reports, change orders and cost estimates.

Responsibilities

• Review and make corrections to shop drawings and submittals, payment requests, and construction schedules reflective of the journey level of expertise.
• Check elevation requirements for installation of gas, water main, sewer lines, storm drain, catch basin and electrical duct lines, etc.
• Coordinate tests to include but not be limited to concrete, special inspection, completed utilities, equipment, and systems.
• Conduct daily field inspections of projects.
• Coordinate and conduct pre-final and final inspection of assigned projects.
• Prepare change orders, reports, costs and progress estimates, and correspondence related to assigned projects.
• Evaluate and maintain records of work progress, activities of labor, and equipment and construction methods being used.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
• Most of the work is performed outside of a normal City office environment.
• Field assignments entail exposure to all types of weather and hazardous conditions at construction sites.
• May be required to stand, walk and bend for extended periods of time.
