Job summary

Aerotek is seeking a Roving Building Engineer to support multiple commercial facilities across the North DC and Rockville area. The role focuses on operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing HVAC and related systems in a field-based, travel-intensive environment.

You'll work with mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and life-safety systems, traveling between sites to perform preventive maintenance, document readings, and respond to service needs with safety and efficiency in mind.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 2–4 years of experience maintaining and repairing commercial building systems.
• Minimum of 5 years of HVAC background with strong knowledge of general maintenance.
• Experience analyzing the operation of commercial or industrial mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems to identify causes of problems or malfunctions and take corrective action.
• EPA 608 Type II Certification.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Ability to travel between multiple facilities in the North DC and Rockville area.
• Working knowledge of computer applications, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Ability to comply with safety procedures and hazardous materials handling.
• Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to work independently in the field.

Responsibilities

• Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair facility systems across multiple facilities.
• Travel between North DC and Rockville sites to inspect systems and perform maintenance.
• Manage preventive maintenance, purchasing and inventory control, and contracted maintenance.
• Calibrate and replace parts on HVAC systems and related equipment.
• Record readings and adjust systems to ensure optimal performance.
• Ensure safe storage and handling of hazardous materials and maintain a clean workspace.
• Audit tool and instrument inventory and ensure equipment is available and in good condition.
• Monitor outside contractors’ work for quality, timeliness, and budget compliance.
• Follow safety procedures and maintain good housekeeping across areas.
• Identify potential hazards and propose mitigation strategies.
• Document maintenance activities using Word and Excel.
