Job summary

DC Government is seeking a Building Code Inspector within the District of Columbia Department of Buildings, OCBS, to conduct on-site inspections of residential and commercial construction. You will prepare inspection reports, issue corrective orders, and maintain inspection records in district databases.

The role requires specialized experience, valid driver’s license, and multiple ICC certifications with a plan to obtain additional certifications within 12 months to complete the Residential or

Qualifications

  • Specialized experience directly related to the position and enabling code enforcement and inspections.
  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level.

Responsibilities

  • Perform on-site inspections of residential and commercial construction sites to ensure compliance with DC codes and approved permits.
  • Prepare written/electronic inspection reports indicating compliance or noncompliance.
  • Issue Stop Work Orders, Notices of Infraction, and Correction Orders as applicable for non-conforming work.
  • Upload inspection results into DOB databases and maintain legally defensible records.
  • Assist in investigating citizen complaints regarding construction and code compliance.
  • Evaluate complaints, identify violations, issue notices to comply, and re-inspect for corrections.
