Job summary

District of Columbia Department of Buildings (DOB) seeks a Building Code Inspector to perform on-site inspections of residential and commercial construction in the DC area, ensuring compliance with local codes and approved permits. The role includes preparing inspection reports, issuing enforcement actions, and maintaining DOB databases.

The inspector will investigate complaints, evaluate violations, and follow up on corrective actions, with a focus on public safety and code compliance across DC

Qualifications

  • Possession of a valid Driver's License with acceptable driving record.
  • ICC Certifications: Residential or Commercial levels as specified, with 12-month completion requirement.
  • Experience performing on-site inspections of residential and commercial construction.

Responsibilities

  • Perform on-site inspections of residential and commercial construction sites to ensure compliance with District codes and permits.
  • Prepare written and electronic inspection reports indicating compliance or noncompliance.
  • Issue Stop Work Orders, Notices of Infraction, and/or Correction Orders as applicable for non-conforming work.
  • Upload inspection results into DOB databases and maintain legally defensible records.
  • Assist in investigating citizen complaints regarding construction and code compliance.
  • Evaluate complaints, identify violations, and follow up to ensure corrections are completed.
