Job summary
The Institute for Building Technology and Safety (IBTS) in Washington, DC is seeking a Senior Commercial Building Inspector to perform inspections of commercial structures in the DC metro area. This senior, field-based role requires advanced technical expertise and independent judgment to ensure code compliance on complex projects.
Local candidates preferred; relocation benefits may be available. Pay range is $110,000–$125,000 with potential incentives; travel local as needed.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible experience in commercial construction, inspection, or related field.
- ICC Commercial Combination Inspector certification is required at hire; additional ICC certifications encouraged.
- Strong working knowledge of the International Building Code and related codes.
Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive field inspections for building, fire, and life safety codes.
- Inspect all construction phases including foundation, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, energy, and life safety systems.
- Review drawings and specs for code compliance and constructability.
- Identify deficiencies and document violations with precision.
- Prepare audit-ready inspection reports and maintain records.
- Coordinate with contractors, engineers, architects, and officials.
