Job summary

Mediacom Communications is seeking a Broadband Specialist IV, Maintenance to perform field technical work maintaining the HFC and CATV distribution system. You will handle routine maintenance, repairs, and turn-ons for new distribution, including trunk system troubleshooting and on-call duties.

Applicants should have a high school diploma or GED, a valid driver's license, and relevant broadband/telco experience. Competitive hourly pay and a comprehensive benefits package are offered.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; Associates degree preferred.
• Minimum 6 months in Broadband Specialist III or 5+ years’ equivalent cable technician experience.
• 18 months tenure as a Mediacom BBS III or equivalent experience.
• Knowledge of Broadband Specialist I-III responsibilities, basic commercial installs, business phone and service calls along with Digital Home.
• Knowledge of HFC plant, installs and service calls.
• Knowledge of Commercial Fiber PRI and Managed Voice installation and troubleshooting.
• Advanced mechanical skills for splicing.
• Ability to interact and communicate with customers and co-workers.
• Ability to work in high or tight spaces.
• Ability to work in all weather conditions and at various heights.
• Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, holidays and overtime.
• Troubleshoot customer premise equipment and cable issues.

Responsibilities

• Conduct system tests such as signal/noise, signal/hum, sweep, chart recording, return loss bridge.
• Set trunk levels and replace trunk amplifiers; calculate signal level losses.
• Install electronics and maintain power supplies.
• Use and maintain test equipment.
• Troubleshoot and repair coaxial and fiber distribution systems.
• Prepare estimates and bill of materials for projects.
• Work with connectors, fasteners and wire; splice coax & fiber.
• Perform duties of Broadband Specialist I-V as needed.
• Climb poles and structures; lift up to 100 lbs as required.
• Assist with installations and changes of service adhering to codes and safety practices.
