Sperry Rail Service is seeking a Certified Trainee/Apprentice for our Rail Flaw Detection program. This field-based role requires travel across eastern or western US for extended periods (3–4 months).

You will receive paid training at our Sperry School of Rail Flaw Detection in Connecticut, then gain hands-on field experience, potentially leading a crew after certification. A clear career path awaits for motivated individuals with a strong work ethic.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel extensively.
• Basic computer proficiency and field tools experience helpful.
• Ability to multitask and work independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Effective verbal and written communication; DOT physical where applicable.

Responsibilities

• Attend and complete training at Sperry School of Rail Flaw Detection.
• Learn rail detection methods across Short Line and Class I railways.
• Achieve ultrasonic testing certification and apply field skills.
• Collaborate within a crew and develop leadership to potentially lead a team.
• Gain knowledge of Sperry’s diagnostic technologies and interfaces.
• Develop mechanical aptitude for equipment setup and repairs.
• Adhere to railroad operating procedures and safety protocols.
• Apply training during extended travel assignments (3–4 months).
