Sperry Rail, Inc. is seeking a Certified Operator Trainee (CSX) to begin with paid training and advance to operating your own testing platform or leading a crew. The role requires extensive travel across eastern or western US, with training conducted at Sperry School of Rail Flaw Detection in CT.

During training you earn $20.00 per hour, and upon promotion you transition to a $60,000 annual base salary. This is a field-based, long-term career path in rail flaw detection.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Basic computer proficiency.
• Ability to travel extensively (3–4 months).
• Ability to pass background check and DOT physical.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Attend and complete training at the Sperry School of Rail Flaw Detection.
• Learn rail detection methods across Short Line and Class I railways.
• Achieve certification in ultrasonic testing standards.
• Work as part of a crew and develop leadership skills to lead a team.
• Gain knowledge of Sperry’s diagnostic technologies, systems, and interfaces.
• Develop mechanical aptitude, including equipment setup, troubleshooting, and basic repairs.
• Learn and adhere to railroad operating procedures and safety protocols.
• Apply classroom and field training during extended travel assignments (3–4 months).
