Job summary

The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services seeks a CPI Investigation Worker Trainee I in Wichita Falls. This full-time, field-based role conducts investigations into child protection, interviewing families and partners, and making safety decisions in the field.

You will travel up to 75% across the state, respond to urgent safety concerns, and maintain detailed documentation. A relevant degree is required, and DFPS offers certification pathways and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher per DPS criteria.
• Two years of relevant work experience for certain tracks; multiple pathways exist.
• Ability to travel up to 75% across the state as needed.
• On-call rotation and irregular hours are required.

Responsibilities

• Responds quickly in crisis situations involving children.
• Conducts forensic investigations of reports of abuse/neglect to determine if abuse occurred.
• Observes children for signs of harm and assesses whether abuse/neglect occurred.
• Interviews parents, caregivers, and others familiar with the family situation.
• Assesses child safety and takes actions to protect the child; may remove a child from the home.
• Documents all relevant information and completes required forms timely.
• Develops and maintains relationships with law enforcement, judicial officials, medical professionals, and the community.
• Works under deadlines with flexible hours; participates in on-call rotation.
• Attends trainings/meetings/staffings and performs other duties as assigned.
• Promotes cultural diversity and competency among coworkers and contacts.

Education

Bachelor's degree

Associate's degree + 2 years experience

60 college credit hours + 2 years experience

90 college credit hours + 1 year experience
