Role Overview:

As the Field Audit Supervisor, you will be responsible for developing and managing the field audit function. The objective of the internal audit function is to assist in attaining and maintaining an efficient and effective system of operations. In this position, you will conduct operational and compliance audits of all functions to determine the adequacy of internal controls, the reliability of accounting data, and the degree of compliance with established departmental policies and procedures, state and federal requirements (laws, manuals, etc.), and Governmental Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. Additionally, you may also provide financial oversight and assistance in contract negotiations that utilize local, state, and federal funds. You must utilize comprehensive knowledge of accounting, auditing, governmental financing, and principles of management in order to develop and direct the internal audit function.


Salary Statement:

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $75,010.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Assist in the direction and preparation of audit/monitoring programs.
  • Examine records and interview workers to ensure recording of transactions and compliance with laws and regulations.
  • Prepare risk assessment analysis to determine county-specific risk issues used for scheduling monitoring reviews.
  • Serve as liaison with the Indiana State Board of Accounts.
  • Develop audit guidelines/protocols for non-routine financial and compliance audits.
  • Travel to all on-site county reviews and lead meetings/interviews of officials.
  • Conduct interviews and conferences with employees, managers, and others involved with the program or activity being monitored to obtain information and clarify issues or problems.
  • Recruit, select, onboard, and train employees to ensure role responsibilities and expectations are clearly understood while providing opportunities for professional development.
  • Set expectations, measure progress, provide ongoing feedback, and evaluate employee performance. Ensure work adheres to quality standards, deadlines, and proper procedures.
  • Some functions may be performed onsite at the agency’s worksite or other assigned worksites, with some eligibility for remote work subject to operational needs and agency approval.

This position is exempt from overtime. Exempt employees may work more than 75 hours per pay period without additional compensation and must report a minimum of 75 hours per pay period of work hours or paid leave to receive their base salary.

You must meet the following requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting, auditing, rules, and regulations governing programs, functions, accounts, or entities to be audited.
  • Ability to prepare accurate and concise audit reports with recommendations.
  • Ability to develop audit guidelines/protocols independently.
  • Ability to handle contacts with entities professionally.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and sensitivity during audits.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to delegate, set clear directions, and manage workflow.
  • Ability to give effective feedback, guide, coach, and develop employees.
  • Ability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodations.
