Job summary

Stantec is seeking an Archaeology Technician in Texas for on-call field support on project basis. You will perform shovel tests, pedestrian surveys, and monitoring to support Section 106/NEPA analysis for clients across the region.

Primary duties include recording soils, mapping tests, using GPS and plan maps, and assisting with site grid setup. The role involves outdoor fieldwork, travel, and occasional indoor lab work.

Qualifications

• Experience with GPS is an asset.
• Knowledge of Phase I, II, and III archaeological excavations/assessments required.
• Ability and willingness to work under varied weather conditions.
• Ability to walk and conduct fieldwork for long hours through rugged terrain and carry equipment.
• Industry-specific safety training certificates is an asset.
• Requires valid driver’s license and good driving record.
• Extensive travel required.
• An associate's degree or technical school diploma/certificate in archaeology/anthropology or closely related field. Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform field duties including archaeological shovel test excavation, pedestrian survey, and monitoring.
• Record and evaluate soils using color, texture, and inclusions; use maps, GPS units, iPads, and aerial photography.
• Assist with setting up a site grid, datum, and excavation units; map site plans and tests.
• Identify historic and prehistoric artifacts following standard procedures.
• Identify cultural features.
• Clean and prepare site surfaces for mapping and photography.
• Serve as laboratory assistant when work indoors is available.
