Job summary

Stantec is seeking an Archaeology Technician to provide on-call field support on projects across the region, including Oklahoma. You will assist with data collection, testing, survey, and mapping, often in remote locations and variable weather.

The role emphasizes field duties, safety, and independence with some lab work; travel is extensive, and an associate degree in archaeology or anthropology is expected, with a bachelor’s preferred.

Qualifications

  • Experience with GPS is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Phase I, II, and III excavations/assessments required.
  • Ability and willingness to work under varied weather conditions.
  • Ability to walk and conduct fieldwork for long hours on rugged terrain and carry equipment.
  • Safety training certificates are an asset.
  • Requires valid driver’s license and good driving record.
  • Background check and possible drug/alcohol screening; travel required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform field duties: shovel test excavation, pedestrian survey, monitoring.
  • Record and evaluate soils; use color, texture, and inclusions; navigate with maps, GPS, iPads, and photos.
  • Set up site grid, datum, and excavation units; map tests, units, features.
  • Identify artifacts and cultural features; assist with lab work when indoors.
