Job summary

Stantec is seeking an Archaeology Technician to provide as-needed field support, performing shovel test excavations, pedestrian surveys, and monitoring on projects across Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and nearby regions. This on-call/temporary role requires outdoor work in remote locations, endurance for extended field days, and the ability to work independently with limited supervision.

Candidates should have an associate degree in archaeology/anthropology (bachelor's preferred) and experience

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or technical diploma in archaeology/anthropology; bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • At least 1 field season or supervised field experience; Great Plains region is a plus.
  • Experience with Phase I–III excavations/assessments.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions and remote locations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform archaeological shovel test excavation, pedestrian survey, and monitoring.
  • Record and evaluate soils; orient with compass, maps, GPS, iPads, and aerial photography.
  • Set up site grid, datum, and excavation units; map sites and features.
  • Identify historic/prehistoric artifacts and cultural features.
  • Clean and prepare site surfaces for mapping/photography.
  • Serve as laboratory assistant when indoors.
  • Work may include handling field equipment and long hours in rugged terrain.
