Job summary

SWCA Environmental Consultants in Pittsburgh, PA is seeking a Cultural Resources Field Technician for a temporary, hourly field assignment. You will support cultural resources management projects, conduct surveys and field testing, shovel tests and units, document data, and assist in office and lab work.

The role requires field school completion, ability to travel, lift up to 40 pounds, and a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited archaeological field school.
• Ability to travel to a location, walk, and conduct fieldwork for long hours, sometimes in inclement weather (including extreme heat and humidity), rugged terrain.
• Ability to carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds.
• Current valid driver’s license and ability to safely operate a 4wd vehicle on rugged, backcountry roads required.

Responsibilities

• Perform complete archaeological surveying and field testing.
• Conduct shovel test pits and excavation units.
• Execute data recovery and associated field recording.
• Complete field forms, digital photography, and in-field mapping.
• Assist with archaeological office and lab work.
• Participate in GPS data collection in the field under the supervision of a Field Lead or Project Archaeologist.
• Adhere to the safety program and look out for the safety of others, promptly communicating and mitigating safety hazards.
