Job summary

SWCA Environmental Consultants seeks two to four Cultural Resources Field Technicians to join our Midwest team, conducting field surveys and testing across Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana. This is a temporary, hourly, field-based assignment with 40–50 hours per week.

Responsibilities include shovel testing, documentation, GPS data collection, and adherence to safety protocols under supervision. Travel and outdoor work are required, with potential advancement within SWCA.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in anthropology, archaeology, or related field, or working toward degree.
• Completion of an accredited archaeological field school.
• Ability to travel, walk, and conduct fieldwork for long hours in various weather and rugged terrain.
• Ability to carry equipment weighing 25–50 pounds.
• Valid driver's license and ability to operate 4wd vehicles on backcountry roads.

Responsibilities

• Perform archaeological surveying and field testing, including shovel test pits and excavation units.
• Complete field documentation: forms, photography, in-field mapping, and GPS data collection under supervision.
• Adhere to safety program and mitigate safety hazards for self and others.
