Job summary

Jacobs is seeking an on-call archaeologist to support projects across Texas and the surrounding region. You will perform surveys, testing, and monitoring in accordance with NHPA, ARPA, NAGPRA, and state guidelines, traveling frequently to project sites and working 8–10 hour days in varied conditions.

The ideal candidate holds a BA/BS in anthropology or archaeology, with 2+ years in Texas field work, solid GIS and data recording skills, and the ability to work independently while coordinating

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in anthropology, archaeology, or a closely related field.
• Minimum 2 years of professional archaeological field experience in Texas.
• Familiarity with Texas state regulations and local agency requirements for cultural resources.
• Proficiency in GPS technology, field documentation, and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to work independently in remote field conditions for extended hours (8–10 hour days).
• Ability to walk up to 8 miles per day while carrying up to 40 pounds in gear.

Responsibilities

• Conduct archaeological survey and exploratory subsurface testing.
• Conduct archaeological monitoring during ground-disturbing activities in compliance with project-specific mitigation plans.
• Identify, document, and recover cultural resources in the field.
• Maintain detailed field notes, site forms, and monitoring logs.
• Coordinate with project managers, environmental teams, and construction personnel.
• Ensure compliance with applicable cultural resource laws and guidelines, including NHPA, ARPA, NAGPRA, Antiquities Code of Texas
