Job summary

IES Communications in Sandston, VA is seeking a Technician II - Fiber to install, terminate, test, and splice fiber optic cabling across customer sites. This role involves building closets, terminating connectors, and ensuring labeling standards are met.

You will perform OTDR testing, troubleshoot faults, and complete IES paperwork accurately. Candidates should have 2–4 years of fiber experience, a high school diploma, and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds and travel as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Able to terminate various connector types and methods for SMF/MMF systems.
• 2–4 years of fiber experience preferred.
• Must have testing and troubleshooting MMF/SMF systems (OTDR & PMLS).
• Must meet company driving standards and be able to travel within territory.

Responsibilities

• Install, terminate, test, and splice fiber across sites.
• Terminate and label cabling, outlets, and patch panels per standards.
• Test with OTDR/Fluke DTX 180; troubleshoot opens, shorts, and crossed wires.
• Perform mechanical and fusion splicing; build entrances and racks; terminate indoors and outside plant fiber.
