Job summary

MasTec Communications Group is seeking a skilled Fiber Splicer to build end-to-end fiber optic networks in outdoor utility environments. You will test, splice, and troubleshoot using OTDRs, fusion splicers, and power meters, while ensuring safety and quality in every step.

You will read fiber designs and documentation, work with teams, and handle enclosures on varied shifts with overtime as needed. This is a hands-on, field-based role focused on delivering reliable, high-quality fiber networks.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of fiber splicing and troubleshooting experience.
• Commitment to safety and quality workmanship.
• Willingness to work long shifts and overtime as needed.

Responsibilities

• Test and troubleshoot the continuity of fiber optic networks.
• Operate all testing equipment and resolve common fiber network challenges.
• Prepare fiber splice enclosures (Tyco, CommScope, Corning, etc.).
• Utilize fusion splicer and OTDR: 1310/1550 DWDM/CWDM tests, OLTS, Max Tester, Power meter.
• Understand fiber design, read documentation, assess light levels and dB loss.
• Work on outdoor utility construction sites.
