Job summary

MasTec Communications Group is seeking a Fiber Splicer to build end-to-end fiber optic networks in outdoor utility environments. You will test, troubleshoot, and ensure high-quality splices while following safety standards and schedules.

You will work with fusion splicers, OTDR, and related test equipment, reading documentation and managing loss budgets. This role offers hands-on problem solving and long-term project opportunities.

Responsibilities

• Test and troubleshoot fiber optic network continuity.
• Operate testing equipment and resolve common fiber issues.
• Prepare fiber splice enclosures (Tyco, CommScope, Corning).
• Use fusion splicer and OTDR, read specs and loss budgets.
• Understand fiber design, light levels, and dB loss.
• Work on outdoor utility construction sites.

Responsibilities

As a Fiber Splicer, you are responsible for producing end-to-end fiber optic networks. You believe in doing the job right. Being the best. And you’re up for the challenge.

In Addition, You Will

• Test and troubleshoot the continuity of fiber optic networks
• Operate all testing equipment and be adept at the resolution of challenges common to fiber optic networks
• Experience prepping fiber splice enclosures such as Tyco, CommScope, Corning, etc.
• Utilize fusion splicer, test equipment OTDR (Optical Time-Domain Reflectometer) 1310, 1550, DWDM, CWDM, 945 OLTS, Max Tester, Power meter
• Fiber engineer knowledge of fiber design, reading documentation, understanding of light levels, and dB loss
• Work in outdoor utility construction sites

Qualifications

• You have a track record of completing work with a high level of quality
• You have a knack for figuring out hard problems and enjoy a hands-on approach to your work
• You are looking for long-term projects
• You enjoy getting your hands dirty with your team
• You have at least 3-5 years of fiber splicing and troubleshooting experience
• You are comfortable working on a ladder or a bucket truck
• You have a knack for figuring out hard problems and enjoy a hands-on approach to your work
• You have a track record of completing work with a high level of quality
• You are flexible and enjoy a variety of shifts with overtime

$28-$36/hour depending on experience.
