Job summary

Placements24 seeks a dedicated Fiber Optic Technician to join our growing team in a hybrid role. You will install, maintain, and repair fiber networks across field sites while providing remote technical support to ensure high-speed connectivity for customers.

You will work with OTDRs, power meters, and fault locators, read diagrams, and collaborate with junior technicians to uphold network integrity and service quality.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Fiber Optic Technician or similar role.
• Proficiency in splicing, termination, and testing procedures.
• Familiarity with different fiber types and connectors.
• Ability to read and interpret network diagrams and manuals.

Responsibilities

• Install, terminate, splice, and test fiber optic cables in various environments.
• Perform routine maintenance and troubleshoot fiber networks.
• Inspect infrastructure and document damages or repairs.
• Use OTDRs, power meters, and visual fault locators for testing.
• Respond to service calls and restore connectivity promptly.
• Support or mentor junior technicians as needed.

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated and skilled Fiber Optic Technician to join their growing team in Tembisa . You will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of fiber optic networks, ensuring high-speed connectivity for our customers. This role involves both field work and some remote technical support, making it an ideal hybrid position for someone who enjoys hands-on work and can also contribute remotely. You will play a crucial part in expanding and maintaining the integrity of our client's telecommunications infrastructure. The position requires meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to delivering reliable service.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, terminate, splice, and test fiber optic cables in various environments, including underground, aerial, and building pathways.
• Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on fiber optic networks to identify and resolve connectivity issues.
• Conduct thorough inspections of fiber optic infrastructure, documenting any damages or required repairs.
• Utilize specialized testing equipment such as OTDRs, power meters, and visual fault locators.
• Respond to service calls and emergency repairs to restore network connectivity promptly.
• Provide technical support and guidance to junior technicians when needed.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Fiber Optic Technician or similar role.
• Proficiency in fiber optic splicing, termination, and testing procedures.
• Familiarity with different types of fiber optic cables and connectors.
• Ability to read and interpret network diagrams, blueprints, and technical manuals.
• Strong understanding of optical transmission principles and testing equipment.
• A valid driver's license and the ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends.
