Job summary

Clearwave Fiber is seeking a Fiber Technician to splice, install, maintain and repair fiber optic networks from street to house and customer premise. The role emphasizes safe work practices, ability to interpret diagrams, and clear communication with customers and team members.

The ideal candidate has high school credentials, some telecommunications experience and a valid driver's license. The position involves travel, climbing, confined spaces, and using testing tools like OPM and VOM to ensure

Qualifications

• High School graduate or GED.
• Telecommunications experience preferred.
• Ability to communicate effectively with customers, employees and management.
• Valid driver’s license with history of safe driving record.
• Knowledge of current industry terminology, procedures and equipment preferred.
• Must be able to work in confined spaces such as attics and crawl spaces.
• Must be able to work from a ladder while using the required hand tools.

Responsibilities

• Splices/terminates fiber optic cable according to standard procedure and company, governmental and electrical specifications.
• Maintains, tests, and measures fiber optic signal strength using test equipment from street to house.
• Installs telecommunications services by identifying and connecting correct cables at the vault/tap; installing temporary drop; installing inside wiring; installing fiber optic equipment at the customer premise; connecting wireless devices and testing service.
• Communicates independently with customers, outside technical staff, employees, supervisors and managers; maintains cooperative relationships with coworkers and customers.
• Operates hand tools and test equipment including Optical Power Meters (OPM) and Volt Ohm Meters (VOM).
• Maintains vaults and taps; reports maintenance to supervisor.
• Travels to sites via company vehicle; adheres to safety rules and traffic laws.
• Accesses cable, pedestals and equipment by climbing ladders, crawlspaces, attics or digging as needed.
• Maintains equipment, tools and vehicles; completes time, mileage, and material forms.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
