Job summary

Wecom Fiber in Phoenix, AZ seeks a GIS Specialist to manage spatial data, fiber records, and mapping across the FTTH lifecycle. You’ll ensure accurate network assets in GIS, collaborate with engineers and field teams, and support 811 compliance and serviceability analysis.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; an Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Geography, GIS, Geomatics, Telecommunications, or a related field is strongly preferred.
  • 1–3 years of experience in GIS analysis, spatial data management, or fiber/telecom network records, with preference for telecom/utility environments.
  • Proficiency in GIS platforms such as ArcGIS (Desktop/Pro/Online), QGIS, and/or fiber-specific inventory tools such as IQGeo (Network Manager), Vetro FiberMap, 3-GIS, or OSPInsight.
  • Working knowledge of fiber optic network architecture including FTTH/FTTP topology, PON design concepts, aerial and underground OSP methods, and fiber splicing terminology.
  • Ability to read civil engineering prints, as-built drawings, OSP design maps, and CAD drawings and translate field conditions into GIS records.
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail; capability to QA/QC complex spatial datasets across markets/projects.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; comfortable collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  • Familiarity with 811 one-call utility systems and updating facility data for compliance.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Katapult, or similar CAD/field-capture tools is a plus.
  • Valid driver’s license and occasional field visits to verify data.

Responsibilities

  • Collect, analyze, and manage spatial data using GIS software to support FTTH network planning, asset management, and project mapping.
  • Create and maintain accurate fiber network maps, strand counts, splice diagrams, and spatial databases.
  • Build and improve fiber network records in the GIS system of record, ensuring data standards.
  • QA/QC GIS and OSP data to ensure accuracy and compliance with NEC standards.
  • Collaborate with OSP engineers, construction PMs, field techs, and network ops to integrate GIS data across the lifecycle.
  • Incorporate construction as-builts and civil prints into GIS inventory systems to reflect field conditions.
  • Prepare and maintain GIS maps, facility redlines, and data for 811 utility locate requests.
  • Maintain current facility data in 811-notification systems for compliance and coverage.
  • Support serviceability analysis by maintaining address-level passings data for market visibility.
  • Interpret aerial/underground fiber plans and CAD drawings with engineering and permitting teams.
  • Develop GIS automation workflows to scale data quality for new markets.
