Job summary

Five Rivers Cattle Feeding seeks an experienced leader to assist the General Manager in directing feedlot operations in Colorado. The role involves delegating to a management team, following up on results, and overseeing performance in the General Manager’s absence.

The candidate will supervise 5-6 managers, coordinate purchasing and shipments of cattle, ensure regulatory compliance, and drive cost-saving measures while maintaining safety and efficiency.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree in Animal Science, Ag Economics or related field; and 3 years related feedlot experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Supervisory Experience
• Knowledge of basic business/accounting
• Knowledge of Word Processing software; Spreadsheet software; and Database software.
• Ability to multitask
• Valid driver’s license
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
• Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, rations, and proportions to practical situations.

Responsibilities

• Sets a positive example for employees by modeling safe work practices and following safety rules and policies.
• Manages 5-6 subordinate managers and oversees direction, coordination, and evaluation of these individuals.
• Develops management team by providing information, educational opportunities, and experiential growth opportunities.
• Serves as a resource to management team on employee issues and safety matters.
• Coordinates the purchase of commodities and establishes rapport with outside suppliers.
• Coordinates shipment of fed cattle to packer by identifying cattle ready to ship and scheduling shipment.
• Monitors operational activities to assure adherence to laws and company policies across management.
• Maintains professional knowledge by attending workshops, reviewing publications, and networking.
• Competency: Understand livestock and commodity markets, lead a team effectively, coordinate projects, manage budgets, and implement cost-saving measures.
