Job Summary

The Floater Teacher is responsible for providing flexible classroom support throughout the center while ensuring a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for all children. The Floater Teacher assists Lead Teachers and Assistant Teachers by providing coverage during breaks, planning periods, staff absences, transitions, and high-need classroom situations. This position requires adaptability, teamwork, and the ability to build positive relationships with children of varying ages. The Floater Teacher works collaboratively with all classroom staff to ensure each child's developmental, emotional, physical, and intellectual needs are met while maintaining consistency in classroom routines and center policies.

Responsibilities
  • Provide classroom coverage for Lead Teachers and Assistant Teachers during breaks, planning
    periods, meetings, and staff absences.
  • Assist in maintaining appropriate teacher-to-child ratios throughout the center.
  • Adapt quickly to different classrooms, age groups, daily routines, and teaching styles.
  • Support the implementation of daily classroom schedules, lesson plans, and learning activities.
  • Supervise children at all times to ensure their safety and well-being.
  • Engage children in developmentally appropriate learning experiences, play, and positive
    interactions.
  • Assist with preparing classroom materials, learning centers, and daily activities.
  • Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe classroom environment in every classroom assigned.
  • Assist with conducting and documenting daily health and safety checks when assigned.
  • Support children's developmental progress by observing and communicating important information
    to classroom teachers.
  • Maintain positive and professional communication with families as directed by the Lead Teacher or
    Director.
  • Encourage positive behavior using appropriate guidance and classroom management techniques.
    Assist children with daily routines, including meals, toileting, handwashing, rest time, diapering
    (when applicable), and classroom transitions.
  • Help maintain classroom supplies and notify classroom staff or administration when additional
    materials are needed.
  • Follow all policies and procedures established by the center and Bright from the Start.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding children, families, and staff.
  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and required training.
  • Demonstrate flexibility, professionalism, teamwork, and a positive attitude while working with
    multiple classrooms.
  • Serve as a positive role model by maintaining appropriate conduct, appearance, and professional
    behavior.
  • Report any safety concerns, incidents, injuries, or suspected child abuse immediately according to
    center policy.
  • Perform light cleaning duties, including sanitizing toys, tables, bathrooms, cots, playground
    equipment, and classroom materials throughout the day.
  • Assist with playground supervision, outdoor activities, field trips, and special events as assigned.
  • Support classroom setup, organization, and end-of-day closing procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director, Program Coordinator, or Lead Classroom Teacher.
Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Child Development Associate (CDA) credential preferred or willingness to obtain.
  • Minimum of six (6) months of experience working with young children preferred.
  • Must meet all state licensing requirements, including background check and required training.
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Have the mobility required to ensure the safety of children.
  • Repetitive bending, stooping, stretching, and lifting.
  • Ability to sit, kneel, and work with children on the floor.
  • Work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Visual and hearing abilities consistent with childcare licensing safety requirements.
  • Perform light housekeeping and classroom sanitation.
  • Basic computer skills for documentation and communication.
  • Ability to move throughout the facility and transition between classrooms as needed.
