Job summary

Southwestern Oregon Community College's Art Department is seeking a student worker to assist with kiln operations, glaze preparation, and clay processing. The role involves helping in the lab, loading kilns, and supporting instruction during open studio hours while maintaining safety and inventory control.

Applicants must be degree-seeking students enrolled in at least 6 credits, eligible for Federal Work-Study, and maintain SAP with a 2.0 GPA.

Qualifications

• Must be current degree-seeking student enrolled in at least 6 credits.
• Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress and a minimum GPA of 2.0.
• Eligible to receive FWS based on financial need.

Responsibilities

• Loan, unload, and fire kilns.
• Assist in loading and firing glaze kiln; mix and maintain glazes.
• Process recycled clay; receive and restock shipments of new clay.
• Assist instructor in teaching and demonstration of studio processes.
• Work during open studio hours and assist students in lab.
• General clean up around sinks and countertops.
• Help inventory and track use of studio supplies, clays, and chemicals.
• Provide lab security and enforce lab safety rules.
• Assist with gallery exhibit installation and publicity as needed.

Job description

The Art Department is an academic discipline/department providing instruction in the visual arts and coursework that fulfills requirements for multiple degrees and certificates offered by the college.

***This position is only open to Student Workers*** *3 to 20 hours per week*

Must be current degree-seeking student enrolled in at least 6 credits. Must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0.

Must be eligible to receive FWS based on financial need and eligibility requirements determined by FAFSA.

Required Skills/Experience: Students in this job will need the following skills. You should be able to do these, or show that you can learn how (with or without reasonable accommodation):

• Previous experience in ceramics, sculpture or design course.
• High degree of maturity and self-discipline.
• Interest in traditional 3-D studio art or visual arts major preferred.
