Job summary

Jobtailor in the United States seeks a Space Systems Engineer to support technology integration and the development of first-of-kind space vehicles and missions.

You will develop autonomy aligned with customer risk tolerance, analyze failure modes, and coordinate with stakeholders to implement fault and autonomy architectures. A TS/SCI clearance is required and previous mission operations experience is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's, Master's or Doctorate in engineering, CS, math, physics or chemistry.
  • Active Top Secret/SCI clearance; clearance active within the past 24 months.
  • U.S. Citizenship for security clearance; export control requirements for a U.S. Person.
  • Tier 5 (T5) or Continuous Evaluation program; no visa sponsorship.
  • Preferred: 3 years systems engineering experience; 2 years project management experience; spacecraft/missons ops experience.

Responsibilities

  • Support technology integration and development of first-of-kind space vehicles and missions
  • Develop and present review packages to internal and external senior leadership
  • Ensure system hardware designs have adequate redundancy for fault tolerance
  • Develop autonomy aligned with customer risk tolerance in the presence of anomalies
  • Analyze system failure modes using FMECA or fault tree analysis
  • Develop software requirements for onboard fault protection to detect and isolate failures and transition to spacecraft safing modes
  • Design autonomy or ground procedures to recover from failures
  • Coordinate internal and external stakeholders to develop and implement fault and autonomy architectures
  • Serve as a core point of contact for customers and work with subject matter experts
  • Work in multidisciplinary teams to bring concepts of operations to fruition
  • Provide occasional on-call support for system anomalies
  • Work as an individual contributor and project lead

Requirements
  • Bachelor's, Master's or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
  • Current Tier 5 (T5), formerly SSBI, or agreement to enter a Continuous Evaluation program
  • U.S. Citizenship required for the security clearance requirement
  • Active U.S. Top Secret/SCI Security Clearance; clearance active within the past 24 months is considered active
  • Must meet U.S. export control compliance requirements as a U.S. Person
  • Employer will not sponsor applicants for employment visa status
  • Preferred: 3 years of systems engineering experience
  • Preferred: 2 years of project management experience
  • Preferred experience with spacecraft, launch vehicles, or highly autonomous unmanned systems
  • Preferred experience with failure analysis techniques such as Fault Tree and FMECA
  • Preferred experience with spacecraft mission operations
  • Preferred broad knowledge across spacecraft subsystems
  • Preferred Master's degree in a relevant field
