Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking an experienced Space Systems Engineer to support the integration and development of first-of-kind space vehicles and missions. You will lead reviews for leadership and ensure redundancy in hardware designs to meet fault-tolerance requirements.

The role emphasizes autonomy development aligned with risk tolerance, failure analysis via FMECA, and crafting onboard fault protection software requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in engineering, engineering technology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science or CS.
  • 2+ years of related work experience or equivalent education.
  • 1+ years of experience in systems integration with SE processes and procedures.
  • Master's degree preferred; 3 years of SE experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support technology integration and development of first-of-kind space vehicles and missions.
  • Develop and present review packages to internal and external senior leadership.
  • Ensure system hardware designs have adequate redundancy for required fault tolerance.
  • Develop autonomy aligned with customer risk tolerance in the presence of anomalies.
  • Analyze system failure modes using FMECA or fault tree analysis.
  • Develop software requirements for onboard fault protection to detect and isolate failures and transition to spacecraft safing modes.
  • Design autonomy or ground procedures to recover from failures.
  • Provide occasional on-call support for system anomalies.
  • Lead coordination across internal and external stakeholders to develop and implement fault and autonomy architectures.
  • Work with multidisciplinary teams to bring concepts of operations to fruition.
  • Serve as a core point of contact for customers and subject matter experts.
  • Work as an individual contributor and project lead.

Job description

Requirements
  • Active U.S. Top Secret/SCI Security Clearance; U.S. Citizenship Required
  • U.S. Person status required for U.S. export control compliance
  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science
  • 2+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience
  • 1+ years of experience in systems integration with systems engineering processes and procedures
  • 1+ years of experience with failure analysis
  • Experience in space systems and working with multi-discipline teams
  • Experience with systems engineering practices, including requirements definition, risk identification and management, fault tree generation, and FMECA
  • Master's degree preferred
  • 3 years of systems engineering experience preferred
  • 2 years of project management experience preferred
  • Experience with spacecraft, launch vehicles, or highly autonomous unmanned systems preferred
  • Experience with spacecraft mission operations preferred
  • Broad knowledge across spacecraft subsystems preferred
  • Successful completion of the Company's Conflict of Interest assessment process
