Responsibilities

• Underwrite new business, renewals, and endorsements within authority.
• Independently manage assigned territory and agency submissions.
• Build strong agent relationships and coordinate with Regional Sales Manager.
• Negotiate price, terms, and conditions with agency partners.
• Generate submissions aligned with underwriting appetite and sales goals.
• Assess catastrophe exposures and determine need for facultative reinsurance.
• Escalate risks beyond authority and document files per standards.
• Lead or join agency meetings and trainings; attend industry events.
• Support strategic initiatives, testing, and process improvements with IT.
• Mentor less experienced associates when needed.

Since 1898, MOE has protected the lives and livelihoods of Northwest farmers, families, and business owners. In this role, you’ll own a territory, partner with our local independent agents, and make the underwriting calls that help us write and keep profitable farm and agribusiness accounts. You’ll report to an Underwriting Manager and work closely with our Sales and Marketing team.

LOCATION

Hybrid, with preference for candidates in Washington. Candidates in OR, ID, MT, WY, AZ, or UT may be considered for remote work with occasional travel to the Greater Seattle area. You’ll need to work during our core Pacific Time business hours and have high-speed internet (a speed test is required).

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Underwrite new business, renewals, and endorsements within your authority, mostly small to medium risks of low to moderate complexity, with the occasional larger, more complex account
• Independently manage your assigned territory and agency submission flow
• Build strong agent relationships and partner with your Regional Sales Manager on agency business plans
• Use consultative sales skills to negotiate price, terms, and conditions with agency partners
• Work with Sales and Marketing to generate submissions that fit our appetite
• Evaluate natural catastrophe exposures with modeling tools and determine when facultative reinsurance is needed
• Escalate risks beyond your authority and keep files documented to our underwriting and regulatory standards
• Lead or join agency meetings and trainings, and attend agency functions and industry events
• Support strategic initiatives, systems testing, and process improvements with Underwriting and IT
• Help train and mentor less experienced associates

WHAT YOU BRING

• 5+ years of underwriting, policy services, or related business experience
• A bachelor’s or associate’s degree, or a high school diploma with relevant business experience
• A proven track record of building relationships with agents or colleagues
• Solid knowledge of the local marketplace, industry trends, and reinsurance treaties
• Sound judgment, a data-driven approach, and the ability to clearly explain your decisions
• Curiosity, urgency, and a willingness to challenge the status quo
• Clear, professional communication and strong collaboration skills
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and related software
• Insurance designations or certifications are a plus

COMPENSATION

Hiring Range: $99,207 - $112,683*

Full Salary Range: $99,207 - $128,354
