Job summary

Abbott in Madison seeks an Instrument/Automation Service Engineer I OS (FANUC Support) to diagnose and resolve failures in enterprise laboratory instruments and automation systems, and to perform preventive maintenance and calibrations with GDP-aligned documentation.

The role emphasizes building technical expertise, training others, and collaborating with teams and vendors to support troubleshooting and project execution. Shift: Tue–Fri, 8pm–6:30am, cross-functional teamwork encouraged.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Technology, Electronics or related field; or an Associate degree with 2 years of relevant experience; or a HS diploma with 4 years of relevant experience.
Experience interpreting mechanical parts and assembly drawings.
Experience with electrical circuits and diagrams; use of multi-meters and analyzers.

Responsibilities

Diagnose, repair, and resolve failures on instrumentation and automation systems.
Perform regular preventative maintenance and calibration events to ensure performance.
Document service activities in compliance with GDP and regulatory frameworks (OSHA, FDA, ISO, CLIA).
Advance technical expertise through training and hands-on work with advanced failures and repairs.
Engage cross-functionally with internal/external teams and vendors.
Draft or revise procedures to improve workflows and quality.
