Job summary

Abbott Laboratories is seeking an Automation Service Engineer I in Madison, WI to install, calibrate, maintain and repair laboratory automation systems. You will lead troubleshooting, perform calibrations, and ensure GDP and regulatory compliance across clinical, R&D, manufacturing, and QC labs.

Ideal candidates have 3+ years of related experience, strong communication, and the ability to mentor junior staff. This role requires on-site work with some travel and off-hours flexibility.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field, or an Associate’s with 2 years of experience.
• 3+ years of relevant experience.
• Experience interpreting mechanical drawings/assembly drawings.
• Experience with electrical circuits and diagrams; able to use measurement tools.
• Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks with quality.
• Strong communication skills and teamwork.
• Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Install and qualify advanced automation systems per service policies.
• Lead root cause investigations and corrective actions.
• Perform preventive maintenance and calibrations.
• Document service records meeting GDP and regulatory requirements (OSHA, FDA, ISO, CLIA).
• Mentor Level 1 technicians on troubleshooting and best practices.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and support R&D, Manufacturing, and Lab Operations.
• Work nights, weekends, and travel 10–20% as needed.
