Job summary

Easterseals Southern California is seeking a skilled Family Development specialist to coordinate Early Head Start and Head Start services, strengthen family relationships, and connect families with essential community resources.

The role involves mentoring staff, aligning program activities with performance standards, and supporting parent education and prenatal resources. Requires related degree, credentials, pediatric CPR/First Aid, and California trainings.

Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree in social services, family development, mental health, or similar field.
• Must possess or obtain credential/certification in Social Work, Human Services, Family Services, Counseling, or related field within 18 months of tenure, unless grandfathered under Federal regulations.
• Must possess and maintain current pediatric (infant/toddler) CPR and first aid certificate.
• Must possess a food handler’s certificate.
• Must complete California-mandated Child Abuse Reporter Training as well as Pesticide Safety Training (per Healthy Schools Act) prior to beginning work.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and facilitate family development, community development, and parent involvement across Early Head Start and Head Start services.
• Provide comprehensive services to strengthen and support family relationships and link to community resources.
• Mentor Family Support Staff on eligibility, enrollment documentation, and Head Start standards.
• Ensure implementation of family and community engagement services per standards and policies.
• Identify resources and referrals for families in mental health, child care, education, employment, health, safety, and nutrition.
• Coordinate parent education and prenatal/health resources for pregnant women.
• Complete family assessments within required timelines and assist with parent meetings.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
