Job summary

Family Services is seeking a Family Resource Specialist in Northeast Wisconsin to assess the strengths and needs of pregnant women and families, connect them with services, and coordinate resources in hospitals, homes, and community settings. Evening and weekend hours may be required to meet client and program needs.

The role involves visiting hospitals, completing assessments, building community connections, training volunteers, and maintaining professional relationships with hospital staff.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Education: Associate's Degree in Child Development, Communications, Marketing or related field or equivalent experience
  • Preferred Education: Bachelor's Degree in Child Development, Communications, Marketing or related field or equivalent experience
  • Minimum Experience: 1 year experience working with families, child abuse and neglect prevention, maternal/child health, or child development.
  • Preferred Experience: 2+ year experience working with families, child abuse and neglect prevention, maternal/child health, child development and/or homevisitation.

Responsibilities

  • Provide outreach and information regarding programming and services available to families at community events.
  • Visit hospital(s) daily and assemble list of parents. Conduct visits in the assigned hospital or home and contact all parents who have delivered. Effectively and enthusiastically explain the benefits of participating in the program.
  • Complete assessment on each parent accepting the interview in an organized and uniform manner as determined by the program needs.
  • Assess family strengths and needs, determine program eligibility, and make appropriate referrals when needed. Utilize standard established criteria and professional judgment. Maintain professional contact and level of contact within the system.
  • Provide information on community resources.
  • Build and maintain strong, professional working relationship with the hospital staff and other service providers.
  • Forward all completed assessments from the eligible participant families, as directed, in a timely manner.
  • May meet with previously-assessed families in their home to provide follow-up services.
  • Provide training to volunteers, students, and new team members as requested.
  • Promote and encourage team building to maintain professional relationships within the program.
  • Attend scheduled team, staff, and group supervision meetings and other meetings as deemed necessary by the program manager or agency.
  • Uphold the NASW Code of Ethics as adopted by Family Services of Northeast Wisconsin.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
