Job summary

International Rescue Committee in Virginia is seeking a Family Navigator Coordinator to support clients in building stability and removing barriers to employment. The role coordinates education opportunities, partnerships, and referrals to access essential services and achieve long‑term self-sufficiency.

The position emphasizes collaboration with IRC programs, partners, and communities, with a focus on health education materials, workshops, and outreach to families and youth.

Qualifications

• Education: Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience.
• 2-3 years of relevant professional experience preferred.
• Experience with immigrant and refugee populations preferred; lived experience valued.
• Knowledge of Virginia and/or U.S. public benefits, health or school systems preferred.
• Fluent in English; additional languages beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Identify and maintain resource lists for clients, including free or low-cost primary, specialty, dental, prescription, and mental healthcare options.
• Provide tailored referral support for clients seeking healthcare resources within the community.
• Coordinate initial health screenings.
• Adapt and vet culturally appropriate health education materials, communication, and educational workshops, using supervisor approved templates and existing content to build health system literacy and address health-related barriers to employment and self-sufficiency, coordinating with AmeriCorps, Interns, and Volunteers for workshop delivery.
• Coordinate initial school enrollment appointments, maintaining positive school relationships.
• Collaborate with internal and external partners to make referrals and access services for early childhood applications, advocacy for services for children, parent engagement, educational workshops, out of school time opportunities and other community resources that support long‑term stability.
• Collaborate with internal and external partners to offer education and events to knowledge, activities and awareness for youth and families to thrive.
