Nycenet is seeking a Parent Coordinator to join the administrative team under the principal, focusing on engaging parents and involving them in the school community, including those with limited English proficiency.

The role emphasizes creating a welcoming environment, addressing parent and community issues with the principal, coordinating meetings, liaising with parent associations, and connecting families with community services. Flexible hours may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent with two years of community work related to duties described; or an Associate's degree with four years of related work; or a high school diploma with six years of related experience.
• Preferred familiarity with NYC public school system and experience convening workshops.
• Bilingual abilities are preferred where there is a significant non-English speaking population; flexibility with hours.

Responsibilities

• Increase parent involvement by working with school, parent and community organizations.
• Facilitate parent and school community concerns and issues, including policies or facilities issues.
• Conduct outreach to engage parents in their children’s education.
• Convene regular parent meetings and events around topics of key concerns for parents.
• Attend parent meetings with the principal when appropriate.
• Assist in establishing by-laws and elections for parent associations per Chancellor’s Regulation A-660.
• Serve as liaison to Central and Field-based parent support staff.
• Maintain contact with community organizations involved with the school’s educational program.
• Organize back-to-school and other events to welcome parents and build involvement.
