Job summary

The Family Liaison at Boston Public Schools builds the capacity of schools to authentically engage families and to create strong partnerships that support teaching, learning, student achievement and school improvement. The Liaison acts as a bridge between school and home, fostering trust and advocating for family involvement in decision-making.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• 48 college credits or an Associate's degree or a passing Parapro/WorkKeys exam.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience with diverse urban families.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Deep knowledge of local community services for families and children.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with staff.
• Flexible schedule including early mornings, evenings, and some weekends.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
• Culturally proficient with ability to engage families from diverse backgrounds.

Responsibilities

• Promotes BPS family and student engagement vision within schools and community.
• Assesses school family engagement structures using surveys and tools.
• Develops a work plan with measurable deliverables for family engagement.
• Responds empathetically to concerns raised by families and follows through.
• Guides families to navigate the BPS system and referrals to services.
• Provides school-based and community outreach for registration and transportation.
• References students and families to internal or external supports to meet needs.
• Ensures regular, accessible communication in families' home languages.
• Collects data to document outcomes of engagement activities.
• Supports recruitment and retention of parent volunteers and leadership.
