Job summary

The Family Liaison at Boston Public Schools is a school-based role focused on building capacity for authentic family engagement, partnering with principals and staff to create welcoming environments where parents are true partners in education. The Liaison develops systems and activities that connect families to opportunities, resources, and the school community.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Forty-eight (48) credit hours of college coursework or an Associate's degree or passing scores on standardized assessments.
• At least 3 years of experience working with diverse families in urban settings.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of community organizations and social services in Boston.
• Ability to communicate in the dominant home language of families served.
• Ability to take initiative and work collaboratively.
• Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings and weekends as needed.
• Tact, diplomacy and sound judgement in sensitive situations.
• Strong organizational skills and data reporting ability.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Experience in leading workshops and trainings.
• Willingness to learn new skills and content.
• Cultural proficiency and connection to diverse student/family backgrounds.

Responsibilities

• Promotes the district vision for family engagement.
• Assesses family engagement structures and activities in assigned schools.
• Develops an individual work plan with measurable deliverables.
• Responds to concerns from parents with empathy and provides resolutions.
• Helps families navigate the Boston Public Schools system.
• Provides school-based and community outreach to families for registration and transportation.
• Contacts resources to ensure student/family needs are met.
• Maintains communication with families in home languages.
• Collects data to document outcomes of family engagement activities.
• Oversees recruitment and retention of parent leadership in school councils.
• Organizes family engagement events and workshops on key topics.

Education

High School Diploma or GED

48 Credit Hours of College Coursework or Associate's Degree

3+ years experience with diverse families in urban setting

Excellent verbal and written communication

Knowledge of community organizations and social services in Boston

Proficient in dominant home language of families served

Independent initiative and collaboration

Flexible schedule incl. early mornings, evenings, weekends

Tact, diplomacy, sound judgement

Strong organizational skills

Microsoft Office proficiency

Ability to create and maintain reports and data
