Job summary

Lewis & Clark College is seeking a part-time Grounds Worker to support annual campus maintenance and special projects on campus in Portland, Oregon. You will work under the grounds supervisor and help with a variety of tasks using hand and power tools.

The role requires physical stamina, the ability to kneel, bend, and squat, and the capability to operate the necessary grounds equipment. A valid work-study eligibility is preferred and transportation training may be required.

JOB PURPOSE:

This position will work under the supervision of the College grounds supervisor on annual campus grounds maintenance projects as well as special projects.

  • Ability to perform physical tasks required to carry out the job responsibility.
  • Must be able to work in a stooped, kneeling, crouched or squatting position.
  • Must be able to manipulate the tools and equipment used in grounds tasks.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Skillfully and safely operates all hand and power tools necessary to complete assigned tasks, including shovels, hoes, rakes, axes, trimmers, mowers, etc.
  • Moves, loads, unloads and delivers heavy and bulky materials, supplies, and equipment by hand or dolly.
  • Assists with all tasks needed to ensure timely set‑ups and take‑downs for campus events.
  • Must pass drivers training to operate transportation vehicles.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Communication: Clearly and effectively exchange information with others through written, verbal, and non-verbal methods.
  • Critical Thinking: Identify and analyze problems, evaluate solutions, and make informed decisions.
  • Skillfully and safely operates all hand and power tools necessary to complete assigned tasks, including shovels, hoes, rakes, axes, trimmers, mowers, etc.
SCHEDULE:

Part Time Hours available Monday through Friday from 7 AM to 4 PM

RATE OF PAY:

$16.80 per hour

WORK STUDY REQUIREMENT:

Preferred but not required.
