Job Description
Westfield Public Schools is currently accepting applications for Girls Field Hockey Varsity Coach for Westfield High School Fall 2026 season.
Start and end of the season determined by MIAA and subject to the City of Westfield Board of Health rules and regulations.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a role model for students, instill emotional stability, and promote teamwork, obedience to rules, good sportsmanship, and knowledge of the sport.
- Teach the theory and practice of field hockey appropriately for secondary school‑age students.
- Consider other sports activities within the school’s athletics program.
- Collaborate cooperatively with coaching staff and school administrators.
- Abide by school rules, MIAA, PVIAC, MVADA, and sport rules.
- Be present from the first tryout day until the last day of the season and coach at least five days a week.
- Supervise your teams at all times.
- Collect all uniforms and equipment at the end of each season.
- Maintain a fair and unbiased relationship with athletes, considering their physical and mental welfare.
Qualifications
- Emotional stability
- Willingness to serve as a role model for students
- Knowledge of and ability to teach the sport to secondary school‑age students
- Emphasis on team play, obedience to rules, good sportsmanship, and knowledge of the sport
- Consideration for other sports activities in the school
- Ability to work cooperatively with other members of the coaching staff and with school administrators
Required Pre‑Employment Certifications
- Completed CORI background check
- Fingerprint‑based state and national background check (Chapter 459 of the Acts of 2012, as amended by Chapter 77 of the Acts of 2013)
- Annual NFHS Concussion in Sports Certification
- Current CPR certification from the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or an approved agency (not required for coaches with a physical disability)
- Citizenship, residency, or work visa required
