Job description

Fall 2026 Paid Civil Engineering Internship - Drainage, Stormwater & Utilities

Miller Gray is a locally owned, growing civil engineering firm based in Austin, and we are looking for a Civil Engineering Intern to join our team for Fall 2026. This is a paid internship designed for a civil engineering student in their junior year who is eager to gain hands‑on experience, learn from experienced engineers, and explore a career in public infrastructure design.

Our work focuses primarily on public infrastructure projects for municipalities and counties across Central Texas, with an emphasis on hydraulics and hydrology, stormwater management, drainage, flood control, and water quality. This internship will also provide exposure to water, wastewater, and utility/pipeline design projects, giving students the opportunity to build a broad technical foundation while working on real‑world projects.

At Miller Gray, we believe future engineers learn best through meaningful project experience, direct mentorship, and a collaborative team environment. As a small and growing local firm, we offer interns the chance to work closely with senior staff, ask questions, build practical skills, and see how engineering solutions make a direct impact in the communities we serve.

What You’ll Do

  • Support engineering analyses and design for stormwater, drainage, flood control, and water quality projects
  • Assist with hydrologic and hydraulic modeling for public infrastructure improvements
  • Provide support on utility and pipeline design for water and wastewater projects
  • Help prepare construction documents, including plans, details, quantity calculations, and cost estimates
  • Contribute to a variety of municipal and public works projects across Central Texas
  • Work alongside project managers and engineers in a highly collaborative, mentored setting

What We’re Looking For

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
  • Rising senior or student who has completed their junior year by Fall 2026
  • Interest in hydrology, hydraulics, stormwater, drainage, or water resources engineering
  • Exposure through coursework or internships to tools such as:
  • HEC-RAS
  • HEC-HMS
  • GIS / ArcGIS
  • StormCAD or other water resources modeling tools
  • Experience with MicroStation is a plus, but not required
  • Strong attention to detail, communication skills, and willingness to learn
  • A positive, team‑oriented attitude and interest in growing as an engineer

Why Intern at Miller Gray

  • Paid fall internship with meaningful, real‑world project experience
  • Hands‑on mentorship from experienced engineers
  • Opportunity to work on public infrastructure projects that support Central Texas communities
  • A small-firm environment where you’ll gain direct exposure to projects and team members
  • A chance to build practical skills and explore long‑term career opportunities in civil engineering
  • Austin‑based office with a strong local presence and a collaborative company culture

If you’re looking for a summer internship where you can learn, contribute, and gain valuable experience in stormwater, drainage, and utility design, we’d love to hear from you.
