Job summary

Stantec in Houston is seeking an Intern/Co-op to support infrastructure projects in water and wastewater, stormwater, and related design work. You will work with a project team and gain exposure to modeling, stream restoration, and regional water planning.

This role provides hands-on experience in project administration, report writing, data gathering, CAD and GIS tasks, field observations, and use of engineering software such as CAD, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, and InfoWorks ICM.

Responsibilities

• Assist project administration: write reports, gather information, draft proposals/communications, track costs, and prepare progress reports.
• Support technical staff with data collection, research, reporting, and basic design calculations.
• Gain exposure to CAD, GIS, and other design tools.
• Assist with construction observations and field work.
• Use engineering modeling software such as CAD, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, and InfoWorks ICM.
• Follow health and safety procedures in office and field activities.
• Help prepare decision matrices and risk assessments.
• Apply attention to detail and sound judgment in client due diligence.
• Perform additional engineering/administrative duties as required.

Your Opportunity

As an Intern/Co-op, you will work in a team environment and may have exposure to infrastructure projects which may include water/wastewater piping, pump stations, treatment facilities, stormwater infrastructure, etc. Our interns may also work on design and analyses involving hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, stream restoration and natural channel design, water availability modeling and regional water planning. Candidates should be highly motivated and dependable students who are taking or have taken civil and/or environmental engineering courses. This is a terrific opportunity for a college student to support a number of exciting local and national projects.

Your Key Responsibilities

• Assisting in project administration including writing reports, gathering information, drafting proposals, drafting correspondence, tracking project costs, and completing progress reports
• Assisting technical staff with various project tasks, including researching, compiling, and evaluating project data, preparing reports, and performing calculations for design projects
• Gaining exposure and performing basic tasks in CAD, GIS, and other design programs
• Performing construction observations and assisting with field work, as needed
• Working with engineering modeling software that may include CAD, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, and InfoWorks ICM, or other water related programs.
• Adhering to established health and safety procedures during office and field activities
• Assisting with the preparation of decision matrices and risk assessments for critical projects
• Applying attention to detail and sound technical judgment when supporting client due diligence efforts
• Completing other engineering/administrative duties as required
