Job summary

HR Green in Illinois is offering a paid Civil Engineering Internship for Summer 2027. You'll work on real projects, alongside engineers, gaining hands-on experience from day one.

You will assist with design and modeling using AutoCAD Civil 3D and MicroStation, perform basic calculations, and collaborate with CADD technicians to develop plan sets. What You’ll Experience as an HR Green Intern

Our paid Civil Engineering Internship is designed for students who want hands on experience, not just résumé lines. During the internship you will:

Work alongside engineers and project teams on active, real-world projects, getting hands on experience Apply what you’re learning in class to design, modeling, and problem-solving Gain exposure across one or more of our practice areas: Water, Transportation, Land Development, Construction, Municipal Services, Survey Services (GIS)
You won’t be doing this alone. Every intern is:

What You’ll Work On

Depending on your team, you may:

• Assist with design and modeling using AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, and other engineering tools
• Perform basic engineering calculations and analyses Research materials and help prepare specifications and documentation

Water Resources

• Assist water resources engineers with stormwater, flood reduction, and stream stabilization projects Locations: IL (Aurora, McHenry, New Lenox), TX (Houston)

Water Wastewater

• Assist engineers with project tasks related to planning, design, and analysis of water and wastewater facilities. Locations: IL (Aurora), IA (Des Moines), TX (Austin), FL (Melbourne, Sarasota)

Transportation

• Assist with the planning and design of roadway, highway, and intersection projects. Locations: IA (Cedar Rapids, Des Moines), IL (Aurora, New Lenox)

Land Development

• Support planning and engineering for commercial, residential, and mixed-use developments. Locations: TX (Austin, Houston), FL (Sarasota)

Construction

• Gain field exposure through inspection, QA/QC, coordination, and documentation. Locations: MO (St. Louis), IA (Des Moines, Cedar Rapids)

You should be:

• Enrolled in an accredited Civil, Environmental, or related Engineering program Curious, motivated, and eager to learn Comfortable with basic office software (Word, Excel, etc.)
• Familiar with, or quick to learn, CADD and engineering tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, ArcGIS, Civil 3D and similar industry software
• Available to start between mid-May and early June 2027
