The Department of Social Services (DSS) is comprised of the administrative units of the New York City Human Resources Administration (HRA) and the Department of Homeless Services (DHS). HRA provides benefits such as Food Assistance and Emergency Rental Assistance, while DHS focuses on preventing and addressing homelessness.
DSS/HRA Fair Hearing Administration handles representation at NYS Administrative Hearings across various programs including Cash Assistance, SNAP, IREA, HASA, and MISCA.
The FHTMRU unit manages processes like Aid to Continue, Fair Hearing Defaults, and Resolutions, which are time-sensitive and must be processed within specified deadlines.
The Fair Hearing Process Specialist supports individuals by providing economic support and employment services, ensuring compliance with policies, and preparing eligibility forms. They review Welfare Management System screens for accuracy and timeliness, especially in relation to lawsuits such as Morel and Piron.
Under supervision, the specialist performs case actions, processes case data, and maintains system records for compliance and monitoring purposes.
The position requires processing directives, defaults, and resolutions using systems like FHIS, NYCWAY, and FHEMS, and conducting detailed reviews of welfare system screens. Ensuring timely case actions and maintaining control over pending work is essential.
