Job description

Office Profile:

History and Political Thought is housed within the School of Arts & Sciences. The department is responsible for instruction and student mentoring in history and political thought, supporting the Enduring Questions and Ideas Curriculum (Q&I), and assisting other majors and programs within the department and across the University as required.

Role:

The Professor of History/Political Science is a full-time teaching faculty member involved in instruction, curriculum development, assessment, and student research related to history and political thought. The professor collaborates with other departments, faculty, and staff to advance the educational goals as determined through faculty governance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Be an effective teacher, evaluate student, peer, and supervisor feedback, and implement improvements as appropriate.
• Collaborate with department and school faculty to foster a sense of academic community through mentorship and engagement with the University's mission.
• Oversee active learning opportunities for students as historians, political scientists, and scholars, promoting a culture of academic curiosity and courage.
• Assist in connecting the program to the local community and encourage student practicum and internship opportunities.
• Fulfill Concordia Faculty staff responsibilities.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:

• Must meet Concordia University Irvine faculty requirements, with a PhD preferred in History, Political Science, or a related field, or a minimum of a Master's degree.
• Must be an active member of a Christian congregation, preferably of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod.
• Experience and interest in teaching undergraduates, including within the major and Q&I curriculum.
• Experience and interest in recruiting and engaging potential students, families, and communities.
• Knowledge of undergraduate research methods and opportunities.

Position Details:

Full-Time Faculty Position

Salary: $66,000 - $105,000 per year
